My March Reads

Hello, and happy April! I don’t know what happened to March - it just seemed to whizz past, and I can’t believe the first quarter of the month is done already. Despite that, I managed to read six books last month. I ticked off a square in my 2025 Book Bingo, and I read the March choice for the Agatha Christie challenge. Once again, I feel I chose wisely. March’s books were rated pretty highly.

I’ve already started my first April read and I’m looking forward to another month of delicious bookishness!

So here are my March reads. I hope you find something you’d like to try here!

Three Act Tragedy by Agatha Christie

(The March choice for the Read Christie Challenge.)

At an apparently respectable dinner party, a vicar is the first to die…

Thirteen guests arrived at dinner at the actor’s house. It was to be a particularly unlucky evening for the mild-mannered Reverend Stephen Babbington, who choked on his cocktail, went into convulsions and died.

But when his martini glass was sent for chemical analysis, there was no trace of poison – just as Poirot had predicted. Even more troubling for the great detective, there was absolutely no motive…

Of His Bones by Tracey Scott Townsend

“Gabe and I are happy this way. We don’t need anyone else in our lives.”

Mariana feels like a pawn in other people’s games. Her birth mother is ill and opportunities for them to be reconciled are running out.

Despite being adopted, Mariana has always felt secure with who she is. But both sides of her birth family are now closing in, and whatever she decides will irrevocably alter many lives; most of all the man and woman who created her.

Of His Bones is about predestination and choices. It explores themes of familial love, identity and the powerful hold of the past. Set in the seascapes of East and North Yorkshire, this novel is the sister-book to The Last Time We Saw Marion.

Making Waves on Crumcarey by Beth Rain

Ray Young has been dreading this trip, but his childhood home needs attention – and he’s already left it far longer than he should! Ray adores Crumcarey, but its inhabitants definitely don’t feel the same way about him. The worst part about it? He knows it’s all his fault!

He hasn’t told anyone he’s coming…
He's hired an estate agent from the mainland…

Anna McCluskey can’t believe she’s going to have to play nice with the biggest dufus ever to grace the shores of her island home. Sadly, her manager refused to take “no” for an answer, so now she’s back on Crumcarey and getting ready to face her childhood nemesis…
It's fine – she’ll just be professional…
And focus on her job…
And do her best not to growl at him…

One thing’s for sure, Crumcarey’s in for the storm of the century when these two set eyes on each other after all these years!

No 23 Burlington Square by Jenni Keer

On the morning of Friday 5th August, 1927, Miss Agnes Humphries – the landlady of the attractive, if-slightly-shabby, white-fronted townhouse at Number 23 Burlington Square – has a decision to make.

The rooms of the second floor lie empty, since poor Mr Blandford’s unfortunate demise, God rest his soul. And Agnes must make up her mind as to who will be her new lodger… Will it be her spirited, young niece Clara, who drifts through the glamorous world of London’s Bright Young Things? Or Stephen, the sensible, church-going, respectable banker who seems just be too good to be true? Or the timid war widow named Mercy, who is clearly running from something – or someone…?

Agnes must choose between them. But what will her decision lead to? One of the choices could result in scandal, one in devastation, and one could even lead to happiness. If only she gets it right…

As all three lodgers enter Number 23, in alternate timelines, relationships are formed and destroyed, feathers are ruffled, and secrets are exposed. Three different choices. Three very different paths. And Agnes is to discover that nobody – including herself – is quite who they seem…
